Screenshots360

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does Screenshots360 upload my screenshots anywhere?

No. Screenshots360 is a local-first Windows application. Screenshots, session folders, and exported Word documents are all written to your Documents folder. There is no cloud sync, no account, and no telemetry anywhere in the app.

Why does Windows show a security warning when I install it?

That warning comes from Windows SmartScreen, which flags any new, unsigned application until it builds up enough download reputation — regardless of whether the app is actually safe. Screenshots360 is currently released as an independent public beta without a code-signing certificate yet, so this warning is expected. It's a caution based on how new and unsigned the file is, not a detection of malicious behavior. If you see it, click “More info” then “Run anyway.”

Is Screenshots360 safe to install?

Yes. Screenshots360 is scanned with Windows Defender before every release and contains no malicious code. It only requires the single installer from this website — no bundled add-ons, no additional downloads. You can independently verify your download's integrity using the SHA256 checksum published on the Download page before you run it.

Why isn't Screenshots360 code-signed yet?

Code-signing certificates are a real ongoing cost, and we'd rather be upfront about that than hide it. As an independent public beta, we launched without one first to validate the product, and plan to add code signing (or a lower-cost option like Microsoft Trusted Signing) as the app matures. This is a transparent trade-off, not a shortcut around security.

How can I verify I downloaded the official installer?

Only download Screenshots360 from this website. After downloading, run Get-FileHash .\Screenshots360_Setup_v1.0.0.exe -Algorithm SHA256 in PowerShell and compare the result to the checksum published on the Download page. If the two values match exactly, your file is byte-for-byte identical to the one we published.

What Windows versions are supported?

Windows 10 and Windows 11 (64-bit). The installer is self-contained and does not require a separate Python installation or additional runtime setup.

Do I need admin rights to install it?

No. The installer runs with standard user privileges (PrivilegesRequired=lowest) and installs to your user profile by default.

What's the difference between Highlight and Snip?

Highlight takes a screenshot of the full window and draws a red border around the region you select, keeping the surrounding context visible. Snip captures only the exact region you drag — nothing outside that region is included.

Can I continue a session after closing the app?

Yes. Resume Session shows every previous session — by date, name, step count, and export status — including sessions whose raw screenshots were already cleaned up after export. New steps continue the original numbering.

Does Full Page capture work with any application?

Full Page capture is designed for browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave, Opera). It scrolls the page automatically and stitches every frame into a single tall image. For non-browser windows, use standard Capture or Snip.

Will Screenshots360 ever capture something I don't want it to?

Capture is blocked automatically while common video-conferencing and email-client windows are in the foreground, to avoid accidentally capturing confidential meetings or personal messages. You can adjust the blocklist in the app's configuration.

How is the exported document formatted?

Every export is a .docx file with a cover page (test case name, session timeline, and any test data you entered) followed by one page per screenshot, labeled Step 1, Step 2, and so on. Large documents are automatically re-compressed to stay under 5 MB.

Is Screenshots360 really free?

Yes — completely free, for individuals and teams alike. There's no trial period, no credit card, and no paid tiers. Download it and use the full feature set for as long as you like.
